Former Jasper County deputy charged with assaulting emergency personnel

A former Jasper County deputy was formally charged this week with assaulting emergency personnel.

The Newton County Prosecuting Attorney's office charged Rob Selsor, Jr., 50, Nevada, with misdemeanor assault on an emergency worker. An August 22 arraignment is scheduled for Selsor, who was also a Vernon County deputy and was an unsuccessful candidate for the Vernon County Commission in 2014.

The incident occurred May 7 as Grove, Oklahoma Emergency Medical Services was taking a patient to a Joplin hospital, according to an article in the May 27 Grove Sun:

According to the report issued by Newton County Sheriff's Deputy Rico Engberg, the EMS crew was driving on Highway 43 when the ambulance driver, Justin Spicer, 28, attempted to pass a motorcycle that "was doing well under the speed limit."
According to Engberg's report, the motorcycle driver "sped up leaving no room to pass," which caused Spicer to pull "back in behind the motorcycle."
The report states that when the two vehicles came to a stop at a traffic light at the intersection of Highway 43 and Dakota Lane, outside of Joplin, the motorcycle driver put the kickstand down on his bike and then "climbed inside and began screaming at Spicer, grabbing his shirt and cursing him while yanking him around."
Engberg's report states Spicer told the man the crew had a patient to take to the hospital and "he could not stay there and discuss it with him."

The emergency workers gave a description to Newton County deputies and Selsor was arrested May 27.
