McNary wins GOP nomination for state treasurer

(From the Cole McNary campaign)

Capping a primary season with no opponent, Republican candidate for state treasurer, Cole McNary, thanked his family, staff, and volunteers for their tremendous effort these past several months.  As election results from around the state poured in, McNary paused to reflect on the benefits of running unopposed in the primary election.

“Having a clear pathway to the November contest allowed me to reach out to voters across the state and deliver my message free from the attacks and dissention that often characterize these intra-party contests,” said McNary.  “I believe strongly in the team approach and look forward to the next few months as we strengthen our party unity and work towards ticket-wide victories.”

McNary’s bid for treasurer marks his first attempt at a statewide run.  He sees the treasurer’s office as a platform to deliver greater fiscal accountability to the taxpayers’ plans for future obligations and reform current systems that may be unsustainable for the long run.

“Cities and states around the county face huge unfunded liabilities as they wrestle with pension and healthcare promises for retirees,” said McNary.  “My first objective as state treasurer will be to evaluate the current outlook for Missouri and advocate for greater pension transparency so we can determine the true fiscal costs of our present systems.”
